Carlie (Marshall) Abney
Carlie Marshall Abney, was born in Burnt Corn, Alabama to Nellie and George Marshall. Carlie's grandmother was Fannie Lee, a slave woman that started the Marshall family history in Burnt Corn. It was said she was actually born Tunnel Springs, Alabama in February 1887, and later moved to Burnt Corn. Tunnel Springs and Flat Creek are believed to be the same area. Carlie was the second child born of eleven children. Most of the Marshall children were a member of the Bethany Baptist Church; however, Carlie joined the New Hope Methodist Church. They all attended the Bethany Baptist Church in Burnt Corn. Carlie and her father George Marshall was actually Methodist, but her mother Nellie Marshall and her grandmother Fannie Lee was devout Baptist that attended the "Old" Bethany Baptist Church.
Carlie met and married Osborne Abney and to that union, there were eleven children. Carlie and William Osborne farmed for a living and together they could pick a bale of cotton a day. Carlie passion was making quilts and canning. Her daughter claimed Carlie canned 300 jars a year. William Osborne died in 1950 and Carlie passed in 1955 at the age of 72.
One of their children, William "Pete" Abney, was a prominent farmer of Monroeville. One of their daughters, Sheppard, who lived in Pensacola, remembers Fannies babysitting the great-grandchildren.
Carlie and William Osborne Abbey lived in Monroe Station, Alabama and that’s where they spend the rest of their lives. They had eleven

5. Lucille Abney married Willie E. McCorvey in 1941, and they moved to Mobile, Alabama where they raised three children: Georgia Mae, Willie E. Jr., and Ellen.
- - Georgia Mae Smith was born February 7, 1942, She graduated from Southern Normal High School in Brewton, Alabama and Florida A&M University, Alabama State University, and Norfolk State University. She married Reginald M. Smith and they had one daughter: Patricia Ellen Smith, born September 1, 1979.
- - Willie E. (Butch) Smith married Bernestine Pears. They have three children: Kenneth, Phillip, and Kimberly. - - - Kenneth Smith graduated from Murphy High School and Jacksonville State University. Kenneth married Marion Adams and they have one daughter, born May 15, 2002. Kenneth is the Assistant Manager of a Sherwin Williams Company Store in Dublin, George.
- - - Phillip Smith was born on January 5, 1973. He graduated from Williamson High School and the University of Mobile. He married Angela Ferret. Ph.D. who is an English teacher. Phillip and Angela lives in Suitland, Maryland.
- - - Kimberly Smith was born on February 23, 1981. She graduated from Williamson High School and Bishop State Community College. She is a medical records secretary.
- - Ellen Smith Lee, the youngest of Lucile and Willie children was born December 1, 1945. She graduated from Southern Normal High School and Jackson State University in Jackson Mississippi. She also attended the University of Arkansas, North Carolina Agricultural and technical college and Henderson State University in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Ellen married John Lee and they have three children: John Lee, Jr., Patrice, and Andre.
- - - John Lee, Jr. attended the University of Arkansas and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College. He is employed in Jackson, Mississippi and plans to work on a Ph, D.
- - - Patrice Lee Stanley and her husband have four children: Jermaine, born November 15, 1988; Christopher Jr., born June 24, 1994; Ebony, born March 12, 1996, and Mayanna, born March 3, 2002.

8. William “Pete” Abney was born in Monroeville, Alabama on October 5, 1922. He was one of four sons born to Osborne and Carlie Marshall Abney. He married Julia Royster of Burnt Corn on May 16, 1942. They were blessed with two daughters, Jacqueline and Marion.
- - Marion married Alex McCreary; they have two children: Alex Jr. and Kimberly. Marion and Alex have four grandchildren.
- - Jacqueline married Orin C. Odom; they have two children: Orin Clayton Odom, Jr., and Bryan Odom.
- - - Orin jr. married Shirley Themes; they have two sons: Trey and Ross.
Pete was an active member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, Monroeville, Alabama where he served on the Trustee Board of many years. He was a self-employed farmer for over 40 years. During his farming years, he was named “Black Farmer of the Year” by the Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University. Pete died in January 1995 and Julia died in February 2000.
