Thomas Watson:
Information about Watsons as compiled by a relative in Feb. 1952
(Mattie E. Robbins Watson wife of William Watson
(born 1862 Belleville, Conecuh Co. AL;
died 1912 Uvalde, TX)
"The Watsons of the south arrived in North Carolina from Scotland between 1700 and 1730. We have little information about them
except they were apparently land-hungry and left N.C. to take up tracts of land in Tennessee. Some of them later went down to
Georgia and this first specific information we have is that two brothers, William and James Watson went from Georgia to Alabama
territory before Alabama became a state (1819). The brothers acquired land around what later became the settlement of Puryearville,
Monroe, County, AL. Mama visited the old home at Puryearville once. It was a large 2 story white house which had been built by William after he had prospered and had 15 children...One of the daughters, Susan Watson Greene was then living in the old home. Her son, Dr. Henry Greene was schoolmate and good friend of papa's at medical school (Alabama Medical College in Mobile). Besides our grandfather who died before mama and papa were married, the only other members of!
this family of 15 whom mama knew were great aunt Martha Watson Greene, and great uncle George Watson who was a Methodist minister."
