William "Pete" Abney

William "Pete" Abney is the son of William Osborne Abney and Carlie Marshall Abney. Pete lived in Monroe Station and became a very successful farmer.

William “Pete” Abney was born in Monroeville, Alabama on October 5, 1922. He was one of four sons born to Osborne and Carlie Marshall Abney. He married Julia Royster of Burnt Corn on May 16, 1942. They were blessed with two daughters, Jacqueline and Marion. Marion married Alex McCreary; they have two children: Alex Jr,. and Kimberly. Mation and Alex have four grandchildren. Jacqueline married Orin C. Odom; they have two children: Orin Clayton Odom, Jr., and Bryan Odom. Orin jr., married Shirley Themes; they have two sons: Trey and Ross.

Pete was an active member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, Monroeville, Alabama where he served on the Trustee Board of many years. He was a self-employed farmer for over 40 years. During his farming years he was named “Black Farmer of the Year” by then Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University. Pete died in January 1995 and Julia died in February 2000.
