****Evelyn Shelby Lowrey Evelyn Shelby Lowrey, longtime resident of Burnt Corn and most recently of Montgomery, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999. She was born on Nov. 9, 1914, the daughter of the late George Ulysses and Waneta Martin Shelby of Charleston, Mo. Mrs. Lowrey was a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the English Speaking Union, the Helen Keller Study Club and Burnt Corn Methodist Church. Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. in Johnson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John Finklea officiating. Burial was in Puryearville Cemetary at Burnt Corn with Johnson Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Lowrey was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Samuel Graves Lowrey, and by a brother, George U. Shelby Jr. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Graves Lowrey Jr.and Judith Holmes Lowrey of Montgomery; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelby Lowrey Jones and Ward Randolph Jones of Houston, Texas, and Anne and Harry Mays McMillan of Montgomery; three sisters, Frances Shelby Brewer and Nancy Shelby Turmond, both of Charleston, Mo., and Mayme Shelby Dernoncourt of Leawood, Kan.; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
