Nancy Clingman
Nancy Clingman is the wife D.M. O'Brien the Head Master at the Burnt Corn Academy and the daughter of Francis "Frank" Clinghman, the owner of the Burnt Corn Boarding House. Nancy and D. M. O'Brien had two daughters Mary and Bettie and they taught Nellie (Lee) Marshall how to read and write. Nellie, at the age of 15 passed a State's Teacher's exam and was certified to teach in Alabama. Nellie is the daughter of Fannie Lee was employed as a cook (both as a slave and a freed person) by Clingmans who owned the Burnt Corn Boarding House.
