****Bertha Jean Lett Cunningham

Jones' Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville

Bertha Jean Lett Cunningham of Burnt Corn died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000. She was 46.A member of Bethany Baptist Church at Burnt Corn, Mrs. Cunningham received her education in the Monroe County Public School System and Patrick Henry Junior College.Services will be held Friday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. in Bethany Baptist Church. The Rev. J.O. Malone will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery with Jones' Unity Funeral Home directing.She was preceded in death by her father, Genester Lett Sr.Survivors include her mother, Ada J. Lett of Peterman; her husband, James A. Cunningham Sr. of Burnt Corn; a son, James A. Cunningham Jr. of Burnt Corn; a step-son, Eddie Logan of Burnt Corn; two step-daughters, Kaywarna Logan and Selena Fountain of Burnt Corn; four sisters, Beverly Lett of Burnt Corn, Betty Johnson of Pensacola, Doris Hollinger of Monroeville and Helen Armstrong of Peterman; six brothers, James Lett of Philadelphia, Pa., Lloyd Lett, Eddie Lett, Alvin Lett and David Lett, all of Burnt Corn, and Genester Lett Jr. of Monroeville; and four grandchildren.

****The Watson Family gave their mother Hettie (Irene Tate) Watson a suprised 80th birthday party on November 25, 1999 at Bethany Baptist Church.


****The Marshall Family planning to have a Marshall Family Reunion in Burnt Corn in July of 2000.


****Evelyn Shelby Lowrey
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville

Evelyn Shelby Lowrey, longtime resident of Burnt Corn and most recently of Montgomery, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1914, the daughter of the late George Ulysses and Waneta Martin Shelby of Charleston, Mo.

Mrs. Lowrey was a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the English Speaking Union, the Helen Keller Study Club and Burnt Corn Methodist Church.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. in Johnson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John Finklea officiating. Burial was in Puryearville Cemetary at Burnt Corn with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Lowrey was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Samuel Graves Lowrey, and by a brother, George U. Shelby Jr.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Graves Lowrey Jr.and Judith Holmes Lowrey of Montgomery; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelby Lowrey Jones and Ward Randolph Jones of Houston, Texas, and Anne and Harry Mays McMillan of Montgomery; three sisters, Frances Shelby Brewer and Nancy Shelby Turmond, both of Charleston, Mo., and Mayme Shelby Dernoncourt of Leawood, Kan.; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
